The cut
Heart, in detail
-
Symmetry above everything else
The two lobes must match each other and the cleft must sit dead centre. Asymmetry is by far the most common fault in heart cuts, and unlike some flaws it cannot be hidden by the setting.
-
Size helps the outline read
Below roughly half a carat the heart shape becomes hard to recognise once it is set and viewed at arm's length. Most heart cuts are bought at 0.50ct and above for that reason.
-
Both the point and the cleft need care
The bottom point wants a V-prong to protect it, and the cleft between the lobes should be cleanly cut and well defined rather than shallow or rounded off.
Made to order
Yours, in your stone and your metal
Every design on this page is made for you after you order it, which is why you are not limited to the metal in the photograph. Choose the stone and the metal, and our bench does the rest.
