  1. Two quite different stones share one name

    Chunky cushions have large open facets and broad flashes of light. Crushed ice cushions have many small facets and a scattered, glittery sparkle. They look markedly different in person, so decide which one you actually want before comparing prices.

  2. The corners are forgiving

    Rounded corners mean no exposed points, which makes the cushion one of the more durable shapes for everyday wear and one of the easier ones to set securely.

  3. Colour shows a little more

    A cushion holds warmth in its corners more than a round does. If you are buying in the near-colourless range, look at the stone against something white rather than on a dark display cloth.
