  1. Size, seen from further away

    A pendant is viewed from a metre away rather than at arm's length, and a halo is what keeps a modest centre stone readable at that distance.

  2. The frame holds its outline

    Fine prong work disappears across a room; a halo's continuous ring of light does not. It is the most effective setting for a pendant that has to work over clothing.

  3. Keep the bail proportionate

    A halo widens the whole head, so a bail scaled for a solitaire looks undersized beneath it. The two need to be designed together.
