It is sized to the hand, not the wrist
A rigid bangle has to pass over the knuckles of a closed hand. That measurement, not the wrist, is what decides the size — and it is where most bangles are bought wrong.

A hinged bangle opens, so it can fit the wrist properly rather than the hand. A solid one has a cleaner line and has to be larger to get on at all.

It moves differently
A bangle sits away from the wrist and knocks against desks and door frames where a chain bracelet drapes. Bezel and channel settings survive that; exposed prongs do not.
