The piece
About this design
Weight for weight, no shape covers more finger than a marquise. Both of its points are the reason it looks enormous and the reason it needs careful setting, so each one is capped with a V-prong here while claws hold the widest part of the stone. Underneath runs a continuous acanthus scroll cut in relief, edged top and bottom with milgrain — the antique detailing that marquise cuts were originally set against, long before plain solitaire bands became the default. The inside of the band is left smooth, polished and stamped with the Driona D.

Because it is cut shallow and long, putting most of its weight on the face-up surface instead of hiding it in depth. It covers more of the finger than any other shape of the same weight, which is why it is the shape to choose when presence matters more than anything else.
They would be if they were left bare. Both are capped with V-prongs that wrap the tip in metal, which is the standard we set every marquise to. Treat it like any prong-set ring — off for the gym and heavy work — and it will be fine.
It is old, which is not the same thing. The shape has come back hard in the last few years, and pairing it with a hand engraved band leans into that history deliberately rather than trying to hide it — this reads as an heirloom, not a copy of the current chain-store solitaire.
Very much. A marquise leaves a great deal of band visible either side of it, and on a plain shank that can look empty — the deep relief fills it with something worth looking at.
Deep enough to hold real shadow. It is cut into the metal rather than pressed into the surface, which is why the pattern is still legible at arm's length and why it will not wear away in your lifetime.

The centre stone is graded by someone other than us
A lab grown diamond over 1.00 carat goes to IGI — an independent gemological laboratory — and is graded there, and its report ships with the piece. Below that weight the accent stones are not individually certified; nobody in the trade certifies melee. We would rather tell you that here than let you open the box expecting paperwork that was never coming.

Check the report against IGI's own database
If your piece came with a report, type its number into IGI's site. It will show you the same stone, graded on the same date. If it does not match what arrived, you did not get what you paid for — and you have thirty days to send it back.

Grown, not mined — and we say so everywhere
A lab grown diamond is a diamond: same carbon lattice, same hardness, same fire, and it passes a diamond tester exactly like a mined stone. The only difference is where it formed. You will never find that fact buried in the small print here.
