The piece
About this design
Three parallel grooves run the length of this band and carry through the bypass, so each arm ends in a stepped edge that grips the pear cut diamond between two flat gold planes. The stone is set on the diagonal, bridging the gap where the two ends of the band pass one another. There are no claws on the front face at all, which leaves the whole table of the diamond clear.

The two stepped ends of the band close against the girdle from opposite sides, so the metal itself does the gripping rather than prongs sitting on the face.
Polished channels do pick up fine scratches with daily wear, though the ridges between them hide most of it and a repolish restores the crispness.
It reads as intentional rather than crooked because the band's grooves run into the stone at the same angle, so the whole line moves together.
The profile is low and there are no raised prongs to bend, which makes it more practical than most pear settings, though the exposed point still needs care.
They are shallow and open along their full length, so a soft brush run lengthways clears them in a few passes.

The centre stone is graded by someone other than us
A lab grown diamond over 1.00 carat goes to IGI — an independent gemological laboratory — and is graded there, and its report ships with the piece. Below that weight the accent stones are not individually certified; nobody in the trade certifies melee. We would rather tell you that here than let you open the box expecting paperwork that was never coming.

Check the report against IGI's own database
If your piece came with a report, type its number into IGI's site. It will show you the same stone, graded on the same date. If it does not match what arrived, you did not get what you paid for — and you have thirty days to send it back.
