The piece
About this design
Two flat walls of gold grip the stone from left and right and nothing covers it above or below — so light goes straight through the diamond from underneath and comes back out of the top with nothing in its way. That open top and bottom is the whole reason to build a ring this way. On a 1.20mm band at under three grams, the effect is a square of light apparently sitting unsupported across the finger.

The stone sits in seats cut into both walls, not merely squeezed — the metal is worked around it so it is captured on two sides and cannot slide. Treat it as you would any fine ring and it holds. If you want maximum protection instead, a full collar setting is the one to choose.
Because nothing blocks the underside. In a normal setting a basket and prongs sit under the stone and eat some of the light coming back up; here the path is completely clear from below.
Firmly modern. Straight lines, no ornament, and a square stone apparently floating between two blocks of gold — it belongs with architectural jewellery rather than anything antique.
A cushion cut with equal sides rather than an elongated one — square in outline with softly rounded corners and a domed profile. It gives you the crisp geometry of a princess cut without the sharp corners, which is exactly what an open setting like this needs.
Less, in fact. There is no basket beneath the stone and no prongs to trap anything, so there is nowhere for cream or dust to collect. Rinse it under a warm tap and it is done — it is the easiest ring here to keep bright.

The centre stone is graded by someone other than us
A lab grown diamond over 1.00 carat goes to IGI — an independent gemological laboratory — and is graded there, and its report ships with the piece. Below that weight the accent stones are not individually certified; nobody in the trade certifies melee. We would rather tell you that here than let you open the box expecting paperwork that was never coming.

Check the report against IGI's own database
If your piece came with a report, type its number into IGI's site. It will show you the same stone, graded on the same date. If it does not match what arrived, you did not get what you paid for — and you have thirty days to send it back.

Grown, not mined — and we say so everywhere
A lab grown diamond is a diamond: same carbon lattice, same hardness, same fire, and it passes a diamond tester exactly like a mined stone. The only difference is where it formed. You will never find that fact buried in the small print here.
