The piece
About this design
An emerald cut is calm — long step facets that flash in wide sheets rather than glitter. Set it on a pavé band and you get a deliberate contrast: still water in the centre, fine sparkle running away on both sides. It is a classic Art Deco pairing and it solves the one criticism people level at step cuts, which is that they can look quiet next to brilliant cuts. Four claw prongs hold the angled corners, and the underside of the band stays plain.

It balances it. A step cut gives broad rolling flashes rather than fine glitter, and the pavé supplies the glitter alongside it. If you love the elegance of an emerald cut but wanted more life in the ring, this is the version to buy.
They make the whole setting look wider, which comes to the same thing on the hand. The line of small stones extends the visual width past the edges of the centre, so the emerald reads as the middle of something larger.
A little, and usefully so. The eye tends to travel along the line of small stones first and arrive at the centre second, which is why a step cut reads as livelier on this band than it does on a plain one.
They give it the sparkle a step cut deliberately lacks. An emerald cut is about clean flashes and clarity rather than fire, so a row of brilliant-cut accents adds glitter without touching the calm of the centre stone.

The centre stone is graded by someone other than us
A lab grown diamond over 1.00 carat goes to IGI — an independent gemological laboratory — and is graded there, and its report ships with the piece. Below that weight the accent stones are not individually certified; nobody in the trade certifies melee. We would rather tell you that here than let you open the box expecting paperwork that was never coming.

Check the report against IGI's own database
If your piece came with a report, type its number into IGI's site. It will show you the same stone, graded on the same date. If it does not match what arrived, you did not get what you paid for — and you have thirty days to send it back.

Grown, not mined — and we say so everywhere
A lab grown diamond is a diamond: same carbon lattice, same hardness, same fire, and it passes a diamond tester exactly like a mined stone. The only difference is where it formed. You will never find that fact buried in the small print here.
